This week's video shows how I turned a square cedar blank into a Saturn bowl with a square ring. You can see more of my videos here: youtube.com/@TheMessyStudio/videos.
Worldwidewoodturners.org had a challenge for the month of July to turn a square piece. Not just something from a square blank. Some form of it needed to be square after it was turned. I've never turned a Saturn bowl but have been wanting to. So I saw this blank and it gave me the idea. Cedar was probably not the best choice for this project, but it was there. So I ran with it. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the end product. It measures roughly 6" square by 3" tall. The final finish is gloss enamel.
