Cécile Chaminade was a French composer and pianist, celebrated for her lyrical and
expressive Romantic style. The Concertino for Flute and Piano, commissioned as a
concours (competition) piece for the Paris Conservatoire, is a virtuosic and melodic
work. It features a dramatic interplay between flute and piano, with soaring lines,
rapid passages, and contrasting moods, making it a favorite in the flute repertoire.
