Just beyond a year to the day, the Openweight Championship was defended for the first time at National E-Wrestling Day Six. It's Champion, Eduardo Arellano's challenger, in a rematch from the first show of CCA's history, was then our Heavyweight Champion, Jewell "The Crystal King" Rowley. Suffering an upset defeat in the first go-around, Rowley gained vindication from the tenacious El Terrible, and left Chicago our new top Pound-for-Pound Pugilist.
In order for Rowley to gain this opportunity, he had to relinquish his previous Heavyweight crown, leaving the division without a Champion for the past year. With a pack of large lads to choose from, the question amongst the powers that be was who would be suited to be the next alpha.
The answer was assisted by an event that occurred 3 months prior to last year's big weekend at CCA 6: Go Sit On Your Tower. Along with a Heavyweight Title defense, the main attraction of the show was called The Millennium Tower Series, a one-night gauntlet featuring twelve competitors within the heavyweight division in order to better organize its rankings. The winner of the gauntlet would become its number one contender. At the bottom rungs of this tower were two men making their debuts, Bei Long Hung Dong and Miguel Ortiz. To the surprise of many, the light heavyweight King of Poverty not only knocked out the Hong Kong combatant, but went on to hold the record in most wins and longest tenure in the series, the only one close was Bobby Bundy. However, he was unsuccessful in clearing the tower. That honor belonged to the man who gained the final entry, Mr. One Punch USA. Be it the luck of the draw or a fix being in, Leslie Fairchild disposed of JC Stone in the final round of the series to become the new #1 Contender.
This February, a crown fit for two possible Kings lie ahead in the City of Angels. Fairchild, with the chance to prove that he is the undisputed best big man on the Cobblestone. Ortiz, the scrappy quick-footed up-and-comer from the streets to shock the world and lord over a bastion of behemoths. Who's will shall persevere in Los Angeles?
