An original CBS Special Movie opening from November 17, 1979 for part 1 of "Salem's Lot", adapted from the best selling Stephen King novel. The two-part mini-series initially aired on consecutive Saturday nights, with part 1 on November 17 and part 2 on November 24. Directed by the late Tobe Hooper (maker of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") this vampire classic remains one of the best horror films ever made for television. David Soul, James Mason, Bonnie Bedelia, Lance Kerwin, Ed Flanders, Lew Ayres and Kenneth McMillan headline the large cast. "Salem's Lot' was later reduced to a single three-hour time slot for subsequent showings, and was also released theatrically overseas. It was further cut down to just under two hours for home video release and cable syndication, a butchered version that remained the only way to see this excellent film for many years.
