Lewter Hardware was located at 222 Washington Street in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. I have assembled several of my photos from over the years, mostly photos of the resident cats who lived at the store!
I began photographing the Lewter's cats with our son beginning in 2009 when he was 9 years old. I have always been fond of local businesses that have resident cats! Buffy and Jody were the first two that we saw. When Jody died, they hired a new cat, Lou, to keep Buffy company and these were the two that lived here until the family decided to close the store in late 2022.
Both cats are now living at the home of a family member and are happy and well cared for!
When Google photographed the inside of the store to be included in Google Street View, you could see both cats were following the photographer around the store as seen in my screen shots.
My family also liked to stop by on weekends when the store was closed to see if we could see the kitties asleep in the front window! Thanks to Lynn Faust for allowing me to use a couple of her photos as well!
Huntsville will not be the same without Lewter Hardware.!
