Glossary:
• [2m17s] Large-cap: Short for “large market capitalisation.” Public companies with a high total market value of their outstanding shares (often tens or hundreds of billions).
• [4m22s] GICS: Global Industry Classification Standard. A widely used system (by MSCI & S&P) for classifying companies into sectors and industries.
• [4m31s] ICB: Industry Classification Benchmark. FTSE Russell’s framework for grouping companies by industry and sector, similar to GICS.
• [6m43s] FANG / FANMAG / “Magnificent 7”: Informal acronyms for groups of dominant US technology-related giants. FANG/FANMAG often include Facebook/Meta, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft, Alphabet/Google; “Magnificent 7” commonly refers to Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, NVIDIA and Tesla.
• [11m50s] ROI: Return on Investment. A simple measure of profit or loss relative to the amount invested.
• [15m53s] Synthetic / swap-based ETF; swap counterparties: A synthetic (swap-based) ETF uses a derivative (a “swap”) to receive index performance from a bank (the counterparty) instead of holding all the underlying securities directly.
• [21m15s] Mid-cap: Medium market-capitalisation companies — typically between small-cap and large-cap in size and risk/return profile.
• [22m34s] Basis points (bps): One basis point = 0.01%. So 25 bps = 0.25%.
• [23m46s] FX hedged / unhedged: FX-hedged ETFs aim to reduce currency fluctuations between the fund’s base currency and the currency of the underlying assets. Unhedged funds leave currency movements unaltered.
• [40m59s] RTX 6000: A high-end NVIDIA professional-grade graphics processing unit (GPU) model often used in AI, data, and advanced visual computing contexts.
