The sun was bright, but the shade kept its cool, numbing Cate and bandmate Huw's fingers while they strummed their guitars side by side. I boiled a pot of water and offered the two some green tea--specifically sharing with Cate a ceramic vessel I had made on the wheel some years back. The girl appreciates mugs--their contents, the construction, and most notably, the memories they recall of chain-drinking tea in Wales, surrounded by family. We looked out across the city and wrapped our hands tight around the warm clay, noses hovering over the seeping mint and lemongrass; a simple comfort that lent just enough warmth to make home feel that much closer.
