Steve Slatter | Catalytic 18" Elm stove rebuild @slatterbench70 | Uploaded July 2011 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
This 1986 Catalytic Elm was in serious need of rebuilding. The gaskets were leaking, the combustor was not functional, and it was in need of a fresh coat of stove paint. When the combustor is no longer working, the stove will produce creosote in the chimney. The customer admitted that it had been doing that for the past few years, requiring the chimney to be cleaned more than once a year. With a functioning combustor, all he would have seen is some fine gray powder in the chimney. When I went to pick up his stove I had to wait for him to clean out significant creosote flakes. The paint color of this stove is Thurmalox Metallic Charcoal.
