One of the most frustrating experiences in life is engaging with people in debate and dialogue. Everything seems to be going fine, and then all of a sudden, a pall falls over the conversation, and the other person explodes for apparently no reason. You my friend just experienced someone treating an idea as an immutable quality about themselves. Somewhere along the line the began treating a battle of ideas as a punch in the nose.
