Just a few snippets from a recent hike at Castlewood Canyon State Park.

Located south of Franktown Colorado on highway 83, Castlewood Canyon has a unique part of Colorado history, and used to be the home to a large dam that burst in 1933 - sending a giant wall of water all the way to downtown Denver and flooded the city! Cherry creek is the body of water responsible for shaping the canyon over thousands of years.

There are a variety of trails at the park, ranging from easy hikes to more difficult ones. It's also the home to a diverse amount of wildlife, including coyote, cottontail rabbit, red fox, black bear, prairie rattlesnake, mountain lion, meadow jumping mouse, turkey vulture, golden eagle, prairie falcon, virile crayfish, Woodhouse's toad and the northern leopard frog.
