The latest in my series of cartoon airplane designs, this little F-14 ended up being the best flying of the bunch. Over time I've come to settle on a setup which works great on these little jets. Differential thrust, elevons, and lots of vertical stabilizer makes for a very aerobatic platform with a pretty wide speed range. I've started using tinywhoop batteries in the 230-260mAh range which handles the draw from the 8.5mm motors better, and gets well over 1:1 thrust to weight if the plane comes in between 40 and 50 grams. The airframe is cut from 3mm depron, but could be scaled 2x to use foam-board and bigger electronics. Since it's a Tomcat, I had to add the swing-wing feature, which is driven by a 3rd 1.7g servo. Wing sweep has little effect on the flight performance, the only thing I can notice is a slightly lower roll-rate with the wings out.
As with all my builds, this is strictly for fun. I do not intend to sell any sort of kit based on this project, although I will be glad to answer questions about the build, and help anyone who is interested create their own.
