Did you know that this beautiful melody is originally a Ukrainian New Year song? The original is called "Shchedryk" and tells of a swallow who has entered the home and sings ... promising a year of prosperity ahead... it is really beautiful. I chose to honour this version in my arrangement and keep it gentle and hopeful. To be honest I don't really like the hectic, virtuosic, overly dramatic versions of this song ... I'd rather a soulful Swallow entering my home than a chaotic christmas Cassowary :-)
