I've had this particular idea in my head for a while now. I've wanted to draw this boss for some time as it was visually one of the more memorable ones for me as a kid. Not to mention this whole level was difficult growing up. Now it's definitely one of the easier bosses in the game, but at the time he gave us all a run for our money.
One of the things I've been wanting to get good at with concept art/iteration, is introducing 3D into my workflow. Here I use a really simple lighting/modeling setup to create the ground and the lighting scheme in one go. I also use 3D to quickly determine perspective instead of using complicated grids or manually drawing them (though I know how to). This simply speeds up the workflow and doesn't detract from valuable time spent elsewhere.
I know this is not the content you guys have been expecting, because I've promised some tutorials that I simply have not made yet. The YouTube gig is a lot of time/effort to divert from what I really want to do for you guys: create Sonic Freedom.
I do enjoy creating them but they are such a time sink where I could be investing my time elsewhere. Thanks for sticking with me friends.
