Wow. Hight political theater! Each year a float is constructed, embodying all the bad things from the year before. And then it's burned, like a witch at the stake. By being so evocative of the public executions that took place over the centuries and still, sadly, happen today, it has gut-level impact. Couple that with a no-hold-barred broadside against collusion by Hollande's Socialist Party with Centrists and selling out the ideals of the left - a booming dialogue between the creature and the ringmaster - and it was theatrical spectacle of the highest order!
