Jazz at Lincoln Center honors the centennial of the legendary Cuban "Queen of Salsa," Celia Cruz (1925–2003), with an unforgettable performance that will have you dancing in your seat, October 17-18! Music director Carlos Henriquez, bassist of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra who performed and recorded alongside Cruz as a young artist, leads the celebration. His personal connection to Cruz brings a personal and authentic touch to this exhilarating concert. "I used to travel with Celia when I was 16, 17, traveling the world," Henriquez remembers. "She took me under her wing. She would call me 'El Nene' which means 'The Kid.' She taught me how to keep a groove on stage, how to laugh, how to entertain."
