A BYU student who felt isolated when she had COVID inspires a BYUSA program that brings care packages to students who need support. BYUSA's COVID Outreach program has now delivered more than 800 packages to students who are in isolation or quarantine because of COVID-19.

Despite pandemic-related restrictions amidst one of the most unique semesters in the school's history, BYU senior Spencer Larsen says this has been the most fulfilling semester of his academic career. At the beginning of (fall) semester, Larsen, one of four BYUSA vice presidents, wasn't sure how impactful traditional BYUSA programs would be. But after fielding a call from freshman student Emily Seals, Larsen recognized an opportunity to care for fellow students.
"Emily called me as she was in quarantine due to COVID-19," recalled Larsen. "She told me how difficult isolation was -- feeling cut off from interaction with others and not being able to come to campus to get food or other things. It was challenging. She asked me, 'What can we do to help students who are in this same situation?'"
Emily's question and initiative led to the creation of the COVID Outreach program, which has now delivered care packages to more than 800 students in isolation or quarantine.
