This is another short Virtual Production test film that I shot against my giant 86-inch LG Television, however this time I also built a small truck cabin set in front of the TV and then had video footage of a motorway playing, so that it simulates the feeling that the truck is driving along the road, without having to resort to using greenscreen.
I also bought a small projector and had that shining footage of a motorway across my face, with the intent of seeing street lights and car headlights moving across the cabin. However the projector was extremely dim and my photography lights easily outshone the projector even on the lowest setting, but it was an interesting test to see how it looks.
I also thought this project would be a good time to test out using miniatures, so I was able to 3d print a truck and paint it up, and film it against my TV driving along some black sandpaper to simulate tarmac, which worked out quite well I think, although the brightness of the TV is still a limiting factor so the shutter speed had to be set rather long so everything had to be moved in slow motion and then sped up in post.
For a bit of a backstory, this short 1 minute film actually took about five months to complete and was originally intended to be a much longer film that follows the driver as he takes the cargo container across the land to be delivered somewhere, but is pursued by bandits and corporate drones that all have a stake in whether this cargo is delivered.
However are spending several months building the set and doing tests I found myself losing interest in the project, and seeing it more as a test rather than anything larger, so maybe in the future I might resurrect the project but for now I think I'll leave this as simply a test.
