I find the idea of alternative approaches to acoustic guitar design and construction methods to be absolutely fascinating. While most of my experience over the years comes in the form of alternative woods and cool designs, the idea of a carbon fibre instrument is getting increasingly attractive. A guitar that is immune to changes in temperature and humidity, and sounds great, it’s a beautiful idea right?
Well, I have questions and I bet you do too! There is no substitute for personal experience so when my friends at Emerald Guitars in Ireland offered to send me some handmade carbon-fiber acoustic goodness I had to accept! I had a chat with Emerald Guitars CEO Alistair Hay - he made Formula 1 racing boats before he got into guitars so he is a man who truly understands form and function - he told me more about the potential of these incredible musical instruments.
