This is the Vickory Motors, Invercargill, 100S that first raced at Ryall Bush in February 1956 driven by Barney Giller.
The Austin Healey 100S was one 50 produced in 1955 by the Healey Motor Co Ltd, Warwick, UK, as a race car for private owners.
AHS 3601 is unique because it was the only Black 100S produced, it left the factory for New Zealand on the 14th October 1955.
The list of New Zealand drivers included: Barney Giller and Jack Greive from Invercargill, Max Richards from Christchurch, Peter Lawson from Masterton, Grady Thomson and John Eden from Wellington.
Following a serious high-speed accident on a street in Petone late on the evening of the July 1967, it was not until 1981 that Murry Wells from Australia started piecing the rebuild together.
In 1991 Steve Pike of Bacchus Marsh near Melbourne (the world renowned 100S specialist) was given the project of rebuilding AHS 3601 to what is now AHS 3601R.
AHS 3601R was sold in 1999 and left Australia for Europe to the next owner Clas Arleskar of Sweden.
In 2012 it was sold to Dereck Mayor of England, who refreshed the car and had it authenticated by the FIVA with document 041200 being issued in October 2012.
This allowed the car entry into the 2013 Milla Miglia, the event number 403 is still on the windscreen (meaning it started at 3 minutes pass 4 in the morning).
The current owner (Highlands GT Member) purchased the car in September 2016, it is now back home in N rebuilt as it originally arrived way back in 1955.
