This time I want to share with my followers an artisan way to replicate a heat-embossed panel.
This panel belongs to Buick Century 1994. The customer requested the same design with no sewing at all. As an old saying says: 'give customers what they need'.
As you can see in the video I have used 'cardstock paper' as support or backing on the reverse side. As this paper is stiff it would not let the padding or channels sunken to the reverse side. They will protrude instead.
As padding for the channels I am using 'Eva foam (latex) 3 mm thick.
A kind of 'automotive velvet' is used for the top layer.
We should never forget this material combs its hair in one direction. This velvet panel 'combs' downwards. If you pass your hand over in the opposite direction some dark shades are formed.
The 'secret' for this artisan design is to easily let the 'top velvet material' into the cut crevices. This way it will last a long time and never will unstick.
I have used the same method for the four door-panels
