A team at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) designed and built a new space instrument called the Interstellar Dust Experiment (IDEX). Part of NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission to explore our solar neighborhood, IDEX will trap tiny grains of dust flowing into Earth’s solar system from the galaxy beyond. These pieces of stardust were once the building blocks for Earth and all of the planets in the solar system.
