Making a point about Capitalism and Socialism, Ayn Rand used to identify certain terms and ideas as 'anti-concepts', that is terms that actually function to obscure our understanding, rather than facilitating it, making it harder for us to grasp other legitimate concepts. One important category is what Rand called the 'package deal', referring to any terms meaning, conceals an implicit presupposition that certain things go together, when in actuality they do not.
An anti-concept is an unnecessary and rationally unusable term designed to replace and obliterate some legitimate concept. The use of anti-concepts may give the listeners a sense of approximate understanding. But in the realm of cognition, nothing is as bad as the approximate.
