Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance! Master Rank is coming, which means a massive storm is brewing. We need to talk about the inevitable "Catch-Up" Defender/Black Belt armor sets BEFORE Capcom makes a terrible mistake that ruins the game for new hunters.

With the Master Rank expansion Ascendance officially announced, and a highly anticipated Switch 2 port on the horizon most likely before Ascendance arrives, we are standing in a very specific window of time.
Historically, this is exactly when Capcom drops overpowered "catch-up" weapon and armor trees (like World's notorious Guardian/Defender gear or Rise's Black Belt set) to help veterans bludgeon their way to the endgame. But as we learned from World's "noobpocalypse," these near-invincible gear sets breed incredibly bad habits, completely ruin the natural learning curve, and lead to low-skill hunters getting absolutely mogged* the second they hit the expansion's real difficulty.
*hey kids am i doing it right?
Because Wilds is being handled by the same team behind Monster Hunter World, the shadow of the vastly overpowered Defender armor looms large. In this video, we're preempting the inevitable conversation. Capcom needs to hear us now, before the gear is added. We need better balancing, better messaging for new players, and a shift toward skill-boosting gear rather than mindless defensive safety nets.
What do you think? Will Capcom learn from the Rise team's balance, or are we staring down the barrel of Defender Armor 2.0? Let me know in the comments down below!
