Dr. Daves Diversions | Cap Clip Mod for Smoke Daddy Cold Smoker @DrDavesDiversions | Uploaded July 2020 | Updated October 2024, 3 minutes ago.
This is a modification to make the Smoke Daddy Cold Smoker bottom cap easier to take off and put back on. The clip is a common type of probe/thermometer clip that attaches to a pot.
I used this Multi-hole Probe Clip from ThermWorks ($4): thermoworks.com/PH001
The hole I drilled larger, to accept the 1/4" thumb screw, is the first one labeled "3.5" mm.
The clip can be easily bent into the shape you desire using needle-nose pliers.
I am not affiliated with Smoke Daddy or ThermoWorks, just use their products!

Update: I received an email reply from Smoke Daddy right away with this reasonable suggestion:
"Regarding the bottom screw, I haven't really come across the issue of it being difficult to turn while the unit is hot. My best guess is that the cylinder may have not been tapped all the way causing the threads to be tighter than they should be.
Although, you came up with a good idea using the clip and wingnut.
I suggest trying some Anti-seize on the threads or re-tapping the 1/4-20 hole."
I may give that a try, but prefer the bottom cap to be able to be removed and replaced without adjusting the hot thumb screw, so I'll probably just stick with this modification.
