Cao Cao rose to prominence during the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China, a period which ran from 220 to 280 AD. He was one of the era’s central figures.
Tales of his exploits are romanticized in the novel, ‘The Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ by 14th century Chinese author Luo Guan Zhong (羅貫中).
