So as of last week, two of Canon’s Camera Line ups were updated. The $1,999 6D Mark II is a follow-up to 2012’s Canon 6D, a slightly cheaper and slightly less capable full-frame sibling to Canon’s popular 5D series. It’s been a long wait, but judging from the specs, that wait might be worth it when the 6D Mark II goes on sale later in July.
It has a new 26.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, and uses some of the company’s most advanced internals, like the DIGIC 7 image processor. The high end of the native ISO range gets bumped up to 40,000 from 32,000.
Portrait photographers will love the shallow depth-of-field that the EOS 6D Mark II’s full-frame sensor delivers, and its ability to capture momentary expressions at 6.5 frames per second. When shooting landscapes, the camera’s 26.2-megapixel sensor captures images packed with detail and dynamic range, for images that exude life-like depth and clarity. As stated by Canon Itself.
But the interesting thing about both the Canon 6D Mark II and the Rebel SL2 is that Neither Of Them Have 4k video capability. I find that a bit strange on Canon’s part, especially since most of the World, in terms of Video, is moving towards higher video quality. 4K, 5K, even 8K. But I’m pretty sure that Canon has a reason behind this. Looking on their site, you can see that Video only goes up to 1080P but time lapses can go all the way up to 4K Resolution. So that’s an interesting bit there. Moving on, let’s talk about the Rebel SL2.
The $549 Rebel SL2 is also a substantial improvement to a popular Canon camera that was announced years ago. It has a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, and it also uses the DIGIC 7 and Dual Pixel AF. The SL2 gains a swivel touchscreen, as well as Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth.
“The EOS Rebel SL2 is a small, light, and compact camera with high-performance capability that allows users to get creative when capturing their special family moments or travel experiences,” Canon says.
While the 6D Mark II is designed for “advanced amateur” photographers looking to step up a level from crop sensor DSLRs, the SL2 is meant for entry-level photographers looking to jump up from smartphones and point-and-shoot cameras.
