“We are not victims — we are empowered.”
@natashasalford sits down with @candicarter, former Executive Producer of "The View" and founder of Shop Red Bag, an online marketplace created to uplift underrepresented brands, including Black-owned, women-owned, LGBTQ+, veteran-owned, and more. Carter said she was upset after brands like Target rolled back DEI commitments, but was happy to see Pastor Jamal Bryant rally the community for a boycott.
As more DEI programs face rollbacks across major retailers, Carter is encouraging Black communities to flex their economic power by investing directly in each other-- rather than waiting for corporations to do the right thing.
“Look at how much money these mass retailers have lost because the Black community took a stand. And so you've taken that stand, now do more...We're here and we have an alternative for people who are saying 'If they don't support me, I'm not supporting them.' Guess what? Shop Red Bag and has all those brands."
Carter says Shop Red Bag is more than a store — it’s a movement for economic empowerment, built by us, for us. From toilet paper to paper towels and everything in between, she says they hosts all the essentials while pouring back into our own.
