Cancer is a family diagnosis at 36 years old. My kids were 3 and 5 when I was diagnosed. We rarely discuss the ramifications of what that was like mainly because the guilt overrides my ability to rationalize that it wasn’t my fault. My wife became primary caregiver, she took FMLA and time off work to be there for them. We were lucky to be reimbursed at 60%. There were many days I hardly remember. But I remember my 3 year old crying and begging to see me when I had a 103 fever and intestinal infection. I remember my 5 year old asking why I couldn’t get out of bed. I remember continuing to fight through my potassium levels at 2.7 and hemoglobin at 7.2 just to get home to them. Every mouth sore the size of a dime, every pain that excruciatingly ran through my legs, the endless migraine that lasted months, the inability to move….it was all for them. They were my reason BECAUSE I’m a mother ❤️ #cancer #mother #breastcancer #cancerfighter #chemotherapy
