This Fine Art Friday, I am revealing the next province/territory I am paying tribute to in my Canadian Art Project. This is a series of 13 portraits in which I try to convey the beautiful and diverse landscape of Canada, while capturing the strength and multicultural spirit of the woman who call it home. I will be doing one for each province and territory and will feature the provincial flower and bird for each area, along with other notable landmarks/qualities. Today I will be describing my portrait for the territory of Nunavut. I was inspired to incorporate this beautiful Inuit woman's fur hood into the tail of a husky - which leads a dogsled team - a favourite form of transportation in the Artctic. There is also an Inukshuk shown, which is used a directional marker in the North. Useful items to a traveler are also left there at times. The stark beauty of the tundra is the backdrop for this painting as there are few tree is Nunavut. The Purple Saxifrage growing among the rocks are the provincial flower, and camouflaged in the rubble is the provincial bird, the Rock Ptarmagin. Peeking from the waves of the Inuit woman's hair is a curious walrus. Today I will also show the process of painting the provincial bird of my next project. You will have to identify the bird and find out what province I will reveal next week.
