Canada is fighting back in a new trade war with the United States by mirroring the Trump administration's new 50% tariffs on hundreds of Canadian products, a move the country's finance minister said is designed to level the playing field.
On Tuesday, leaders of the Canadian Department of Finance announced tariffs ranging from 15 to 50% on 27.6 billion Canadian dollars worth of American-made products, a near dollar-for-dollar match of President Donald Trump's tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods that took effect late last week.
Effective September 8, Canada's new tariffs will target many of the same types of goods impacted by Trump's tariffs, including American steel, dairy, appliances, farm equipment, paper and electronics.
