The Groll or 'gravel troll' is deeply rooted in Norsk Mythology. Seldom seen in the wild, the Groll has been known to ping stones and debris from its high pressure road tyres at Mach 2. Some fossilized rubble pinged by the Groll has been found as far flung as Greenland, the far reach of Viking territory. The Groll resides on the trollstiggen but is sometimes found in other parts of Europe. Sightings of the Groll by gravel riders leave them feeling nauseous, hateful, and remorseful. The Groll is shy but mighty, and is widely hunted by gravel marketing men. As such a Groll Intelligence Pact (GIP) was formed by northern European roadies in the late 1990s, who monitor bridleways and byways to inform the Groll via GSM network calls about hidden ambushes, IEDs (Improvised E-Bike Dickheads), and speargunning marketing men.
