Is it possible to move 5 matchsticks to a new spot and the fish will change direction? Moving just 3 matchsticks to make the fish point in the opposite direction is possible and there are many videos that show this. However, is it possible to move more than 3 matchsticks (i.e. 5 matchsticks) - watch the video for all the details. This video shows that by moving 3 matchsticks, 4 matchsticks, 6 matchsticks, 7 matchsticks, or 8 matchsticks that the fish will point in the opposite direction. But, it is not possible to get the fish to change direction, by moving 5 matchsticks.
