Nutrition Made Simple! | Can you get diabetes if you´re thin?!? | NEW study @NutritionMadeSimple | Uploaded June 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
A new study looks at thin people with diabetes and how to reverse it.
Participants with BMI in the normal range started a weight loss program. After 12 months, 70% were not diabetic anymore, they had normal HbA1c
Personal fat threshold: excess fat mass creates metabolic problems, insulin resistance and diabetes. Some can be diabetic with normal BMI, others obese and not have diabetes. who exactly gets diabetes is determined by personal threshold
see recent videos on cause of diabetes and how to reverse it
DIRECT trial showed type 2 diabetes could be reversed if overweight people lose some excess fat mass
10% of people with type 2 diabetes have normal BMI
anyone with diabetes trying to lose weight quickly: careful with glucose lowering meds & hypoglycemia
In average they lost ~8% of their weight to achieve remission.
authors concluded “the changes underpinning remission after weight loss in the non-obese with type 2 diabetes are the same as in the obese”
“type 2 diabetes occurs if a person becomes too heavy for their own constitution, irrespective of BMI”
“weight loss of ∼10% can bring about type 2 diabetes remission in people with ‘normal’ BMI”
for a lot of people with type 2 diabetes there are solutions!
