Skyrim is neat. I enjoy a good Skyrim every now and again. But sometimes your Skyrim needs a little less Skyrim and a little more something else. That makes total sense, don’t worry about it. Can You Beat Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC Without Taking Any Damage?

Can You Beat Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC Without Taking Any Damage? (in text form)
So here’s the funny thing about this challenge. Usually when I start a playthrough for a Fallout or Skyrim video, I can get it beaten in about 2 days. Start it one afternoon, finish it the next. Well, for Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC, I started it quite a while ago… in November. I don’t think I even have that footage anymore. Then I tried again earlier this year and made just as little progress as I did the first time. You know that weird sick smell you get in your nose the day before you catch a cold? That’s in the air for everyone right now, so what better time to go back and embrace the pain.
I began my journey for the 3rd and final time with a character I made for many croissant moons ago. The challenge for that particular character was Practice Arrows only. I don’t remember why exactly I stopped that one. I blame alcohol and the establishment. I chose that Stealth Archer because a Stealth Archer is the only real way to play Elder Scroll 5: Adventures of the Stealth Archer. And because past experiences taught me that I’d need as high of an Archery skill as possible. Also, I used a console command to set my max health to 1 so that any damage of any kind kills me.
My first stop in this quest to induce great suffering in my soul was Dawnstar. Why Dawnstar? There’s a secret chest God accidentally left under the ground when he was making this city, and it’s filled to the brim with all sorts of goodies. Blades for slicing, arrows for piercing, hammers for smashing, Soul Gems for all sorts satanic intrinsic activities. You can’t not have a good time, unless you can’t reach the chest in the first place because a mod removed it. As the anger piled up exclusive me, I entered a Dawnstar house, looking for someone to kill. I split his chest cavity in half, nobody outside cared about his end, including me, so I quit the game, removed the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, started the game again, and could finally access the chest.
Just like that hollowed out rock just outside Megaton in Fallout 3, I would expect me to hit up this chest in every Skyrim playthrough I do from here on out. I didn’t take everything from the chest, I didn’t want to be greedy. Probably the best thing to come out of it was learning of an absurdly easy way to acquire 2 Wooden Swords. It’s a surprise tool that will help us later. With my pockets full of someone else’s stuff, I traveled to Whiterun to sell what I didn’t need and immediately noticed that something was off. Couldn’t quite put my finer on what it was though.

In the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you play as the last Dragonborn. Can You Beat Skyrim By Only Using Shouts? (in text form)
The limitations of this challenge are the same as every other weapon-restricted challenge I’ve done. The only way I can damage an enemy is with Shouts. No swords, no bows, no spells, no scrolls. That’s the only restriction. I can still use healing spells, I can still wear armor, I can still use perks as I level up.
Fresh out the gate, I’m not even going to attempt to say that this a normal beginning to the game. It’s not. And I don’t care. After Other Prisoner made a run for it, I noticed something was off. Someone was dead. I ignored it and chose an Imperial as my race because they start with +10 to Restoration, +5 to Heavy Armor, have Voice of the Emperor as their special ability, which calms humanoid creatures for 60 seconds, and they have a chance to find more gold. I named myself Shouter McGavin, a ghost from beyond the grave gave the order to send me to the chopping block.
The first executionee almost into position, and that’s when it hit me. The Captain who kicks the soldier’s head onto the block was dead. With no-one to kickstart the execution, it would never begin. I tried speeding up the game to see if anything happened. At one point, I had ratcheted it up to 500x speed, days were passing in mere seconds. It did nothing. At 1000x speed, things got a little weird. At 10,000x speed, the game crashed.
I then started the game anew, named myself Shouter McGavin v2, and the same thing happened again. I tried just resurrecting the Captain, but she didn’t actually exist. Then I tried spawning her, but apparently I [boop] granola at console commands. Not willing to get [booped] again, I reloaded a save from a previous playthrough where nothing broke, welcomed Shouter McGavin v3 to the world, and Alduin arrived to save the day.
Getting into Helgen Keep was easy enough. I danced with a bucket while deciding what to do about my primal urges. I wasn’t taking the amount of damage I thought I should be, so I upped the difficulty to Adept, pressed onward through the caves, and exited out into Skyrim. The current predicament is that I have no means of doing damage to an enemy. My only option is to run away. After I stumbled off a cliff and died, I regained my composure, and set my eyes on the prize. A dragon needs to die. My options were to find one and try to lure it into a city or mammoths or something, or I push through the main quest line until the dragon arrived outside Whiterun.
That seemed like the more logical choice. After I stole as many buckets as I could from Riverwood, ventured over the hill to Whiterun, whined a Giant to death, and persuaded my way into Whiterun. I explained the dragon situation to Jarl Balgruuf, who dragged Farengar Stupid-Name into the conversation. He tasked me with tracking down the Dragonstone and returning it to him.
I went on baby’s first mountain climbing adventure until I discovered Bleak Falls Barrow, I got overzealous in my attempt to ignore the Bandits on the way to Bleak Falls entrance, danced over the nothing, and made my way inside. I attempted to sneak passed the Bandits inside, which didn’t really work. The arrow trap in the first puzzle room worked to my advantage. Far Cry 5 is without a doubt the biggest Far Cry game of all time, not only in the scope and detail of its in-game world, but in the number of its title. But let’s forget about the sizable arsenal of weapons at your disposal that are capable of leveling, what a coincidence, an entire county. Can You Beat Far Cry 5 With Only A Shovel?

Can You Beat Far Cry 5 With Only A Shovel? (in text form)
After picking the easiest difficulty and realizing that I would be playing as one of those guys from the Create-A-Moveset part of the old Smackdown vs Raw games, the Long Distance Wailing begins with a cutscene showing found footage of Joseph Seed gouging some lucky guy’s eyes out, then we fly towards the church with a cliche group of characters: the woman pilot, the mustachioed sheriff who was about to retire, the no-nonsense US Marshal, and myself, the Rookie. For the first time in video game history, the characters I had to follow moved as fast or faster than me, we tried to arrest Joseph, things went sideway, including the silver chariot we rode in on, I escaped into the woods, picked up a stick, and we enter combat for the first time. I decided right now, in the past, that until I got to a point in the game where I could get a shovel, I’d just use any melee weapon. Realistically, this is just a more restricted version of a melee-only playthrough. In fact, as I would learn later, the shovel is actually more powerful than the baseball bat or pipe.
I found the Marshal in a house out in the woods, he said some profanities that I might have to censor, he tossed me a gun, and my heart sank. Just like in Far Cry 3, you can’t get rid of weapons. You can swap them out, but you can’t completely remove the Assault Rifle or pistol from your inventory. But, at the very least, you can keep your melee weapons equipped, so you never really have to worry about accidentally firing a gun. Turns out that even on the easiest difficulty, this introductory combat sequence was more than enough to best me. Even the guys you fight here are capable of rapidly draining your health. If you’re looking for a lighthearted way to stroll through Far Cry 5, this is not it. Once the cultists were dealt with, the Marshal and I escaped, I temporarily self-imposed some realism on myself by pretending I couldn’t hear what the Marshal was shouting at me because of all the gunfire. Let me put that another way, I didn’t shoot anyone while I was riding shotgun.
We rode off into the sunset, he got swindled, as did I, and I woke up tied to a bed with a bald man. Sometimes I have dreams about this sorta thing, except he’s not [some santa reference]. He explained that the Cult formed by Joseph Seed, micromanaged by Jacob Seed, John Seed, and Faith Seed, had taken over Hope County. That’s what we call an ironism. The Seeds think they’re spreading their infectious hope seed in hope county, but they’re not. Before heading topside, I snagged myself a Shovel, did not much else, and the real Far Cry 5 began. The first task is to liberate Dutch from the cultists so his radio can reach resistance fighters across the county.
