In this Fallout 4 Survival Mode challenge, it is finally time to head into Concord and continue Fallout 4’s early main quest. In this video, we fight our way through the streets of Concord, clear the Museum of Freedom, meet Preston Garvey and the surviving Minutemen, claim our first suit of Power Armor and take on the Deathclaw using a much safer crit-based strategy than the game’s intended Minigun approach. Afterwards, we accompany Preston’s group back to Sanctuary, complete the settlement tutorial, unlock several achievements and return to Red Rocket to improve both our 10mm pistol and our first sniper weapon for the challenges ahead.

In this Fallout 4 Survival Mode challenge, every SPECIAL attribute begins at just 1. A normal Fallout 4 character receives 21 additional SPECIAL points during character creation, but we give up all of them and use the Custom SPECIAL mod to keep every starting attribute at its minimum. This means that most perks initially remain out of reach and many early level-ups have to be spent simply improving SPECIAL attributes instead of immediately building a powerful character.

Combat in this Fallout 4 walkthrough is also restricted to VATS only. Every attack against an enemy must be performed through VATS, meaning low Perception directly affects our accuracy while low Agility severely limits the number of attacks we can make. Powerful weapons alone therefore cannot compensate for weak character stats, putting much more emphasis on character building, equipment choices, Action Point management and Fallout 4's RPG mechanics.

Finally, this remains a completionist Fallout 4 walkthrough. The goal is to explore every location, complete every quest, unlock every achievement and experience as much of the game's story, dialogue, lore and content as possible. Survival Mode adds further restrictions including disabled fast travel, limited saving and additional resource management, making careful exploration, crafting and settlement building especially important throughout the playthrough.

Fallout 4 is an open-world action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and originally released in 2015. Set in the post-apocalyptic Commonwealth around Boston, Fallout 4 follows the Sole Survivor after emerging from Vault 111 more than 200 years after a nuclear war. The game combines first- and third-person combat with the VATS targeting system, SPECIAL-based character progression, extensive exploration, quests, crafting and settlement building across a large open world.
