Title: Can the Church Be Unified Without Holiness?
Text: Acts 15:22–35
In Acts 15 the early church faced a serious threat. False teachers had troubled the Gentile believers, insisting that salvation required obedience to the law of Moses. The apostles and elders gathered in Jerusalem and clearly affirmed that salvation is by grace through faith alone. But the council did not stop there.
They also sent a pastoral letter to the churches calling believers to abstain from certain practices. Why? Because the gospel does not only save individuals. It creates unity in the church, and that unity must be protected by holy living.
In this passage we see three important truths:
The gospel creates unity among believers.
Holiness protects that unity within the church.
The church flourishes when both are lived out.
