Tropical, mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever could spread in Europe because of increased globalisation, trade, urbanisation and climate change. Find out how supercomputers are used to fight dengue worldwide. 🦟 Subscribe to our channel for exciting science videos and live events, many hosted by Brian Cox, our Professor for Public Engagement: youtube.com/royalsociety?sub_confirmation=1

Join Dr Rachel Lowe as she investigates the effect of climate change on the spread of mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. Mosquitoes can spread for many reasons, one of which is the use of water containers instead of piped water in poorer areas. The trade in used car tyres also spreads mosquito populations, because tyres collect water.
By feeding data such as climate, urbanisation and sanitation levels into a supercomputer, Rachel can help stop outbreaks before they occur, ultimately saving lives.

Dr Rachel Lowe is a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow.
