Although SPARTAN has an operating temperature of -52°C to +55°C, is it able to provide effective illumination once a layer of ice has developed, and provide enough heat to melt away the ice?
At Raytec, we decided to test the myth using our very own SPARTAN Floodlight; a modular LED Ex luminaire designed for the most extreme environments. After replicating a sub-zero environment, the unit had developed a thick layer of ice.
As the video shows, SPARTAN is able to provide enough heat to melt the ice which surrounds it and provide an effective light output. SPARTAN achieves this with the use of CoolExtrudeTM thermal management technology which not only draws heat away from the LEDs, increasing light output and extending LED life but also allows the housing to melt away snow and ice.
SPARTAN provides all the benefits of LED lighting, while still able to perform safely despite a build-up of snow or ice.
