In this video we explain why you cannot use one antenna for different applications.
We get a lot of questions: "Can I use my car bullbar antenna with the 4G modem?" - you need to check what antenna it is, if it is connected the UHF radio, then it does not work for 4G.
"Can I use my existing TV antenna for 4G" - no, it has a different impedance and works in a different frequency range, even the TV cable will not work for other applications.
Just because some antennas look exactly the same (especially vehicle antennas), it doesn't always mean they are meant for the same applications.
An antenna works in a frequency band. The manufacturer, if they are truthful on their data sheets, will tell you, "This is where I designed it for. It's working in this band. It's resonant in this band" That's where you can get the best performance out of an antenna. If you try to do it different, you're just going to cause all sorts of things that are outside of the natural frequency, and you make life harder, and potentially sacrifice a lot of awesome performance you could get out of the device.
