I bought a £5,000 work van and I’m turning it into my dream off-grid camper. In Part 1, I start the build: clearing it out, insulating, sound deadening, and laying the foundations.
I’m finally starting my Ford Transit Custom campervan conversion. My goal is to go completely off-grid, park on top of a mountain, and wake up with a coffee in hand while enjoying the sunrise from my own self-built van.
In this first episode, I cover the groundwork of the van build:
• Clearing out the van interior
• Checking the floor and treating rust
• Installing sound deadening (using Dodo Mat)
• Adding insulation and floor underlay
• Carpet lining the walls for a cozy finish
I also give you a quick van tour of my Transit Custom SWB High Roof and talk through my plans for storage, sleeping setup, and making it feel like a true home on wheels.
This is just the beginning of my ultimate DIY campervan conversion project. If you’re into van life, off-grid living, or tiny home builds, make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the next episode!

Huge shoutout to Mark at BM Autosport for supplying and fitting my rims and wheels.

In today’s episode, we’re levelling up the Ford Transit Custom with a full wheel and tire upgrade — going chunkier, stronger and way more adventure-ready. I headed down to BM Autosport to meet Mark, who walked me through load ratings, stud patterns, and helped me choose the perfect setup for an off-grid camper build.
This episode is also where I fitted my first ever tire, and honestly… I was shocked at how much fun it actually was. That said, Mark works about 10x faster than me, so I quickly handed the job back over before we both got locked in overnight.
⭐ COMING NEXT EPISODE…
I’m heading to Somerset to visit https://www.youtube.com/@Vantrax_builtforadventure a family-run adventure van conversion company who recently caught my eye with their insane custom roof rack — integrated LED bar, solar panels, rear lighting and a full control switch system.
This will be one of the biggest exterior upgrades so far.
Stay tuned… things are moving QUICK!

I am back with Leigh from @CombeValleyCampers and this is the first time seeing my van interior actually come to life.
From storage solutions to a full workstation setup, everything in this build is designed to maximise space and make this the ultimate off-grid camper.
But alongside the big build, we also made a few quick upgrades that completely change how the van feels day to day — the kind of stuff that takes minutes to install but makes a massive difference.
Things like:
• A swivel seat that opens up the entire living space
• A swing-out table that turns the van into a proper workspace
• And premium window pods that instantly make it feel more private and high-end
These are the kind of small changes that end up having the biggest impact.
