My friend George wanted a motorized projector cabinet like the one I had in my room — right up until he saw the price.
At around $5,000–$7,000, there was no way he was paying that. So I designed my own version in CAD, drove eight hours to his house, and gave us just two days to see if we could build something similar for around $700.
The problem was, I had never built anything like this before, and we wouldn’t know if the design actually worked until we built it.
