How to Feed Zucchini Safely
To ensure zucchini is healthy and easy for your dog to digest, follow these guidelines:
Serve it plain: Never feed your dog zucchini that has been cooked with oils, butter, salt, or seasonings.
Avoid human dishes: Do not feed your dog zucchini bread or dishes made with onions, garlic, or other ingredients toxic to dogs.
Cut it up: Dice or slice the zucchini into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
Raw or cooked: Dogs can eat raw zucchini (which is crunchy and hydrating) or steamed/boiled zucchini (which is much softer and easier to digest).
Watch for bitterness: Always taste-test a piece of the zucchini yourself first. If it tastes bitter, do not give it to your dog. Bitter zucchini contains a toxic compound called cucurbitacin, which can make your dog sick.
Portion Guidelines
As with all treats, zucchini should be fed in moderation and make up no more than 10% of your dog's daily diet.
