Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma might be one of the wildest horror movies of the year.
Jane Schoenbrun’s follow-up to I Saw the TV Glow follows a young filmmaker, played by Hannah Einbinder, who gets the opportunity to resurrect a cult slasher franchise and becomes obsessed with its original, now-reclusive final girl, played by Gillian Anderson.
The trailer looks bloody, surreal, funny, uncomfortable, and completely fascinated by slasher movies themselves.
This feels less like someone simply recreating an old-school camp horror movie and more like Schoenbrun dissecting why we love these movies in the first place.
I need to see this.
In theaters starting August 7 from MUBI.
