About the Series
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we’re doing everything we can to flatten the curve — but even though the museum is closed, and we’re working from home, we still talk to artists around the world every day. Here in Houston, in Italy, in China, in San Francisco … artists, like all of us, are weathering the coronavirus personally and professionally.
We will bring these conversations with artists — wherever they are — to wherever you are.
About the Artist
Claire’s work explores how optically rich material manipulations can evoke a sense of magic, mystery, and power. A reverential and intuitive approach to materials leads to the discovery of new possibilities: translucent and iridescent plastics are layered to create mysterious optical effects; highly refined porcelain or specialty silicone disguises itself as junk food; and articulate structures bounce, wiggle, and shimmer. Utilizing a personal visual language these objects of inquiry create poetic moments, and regard the nature of truth, knowledge, and perception. They call upon the viewer to question material relationships and invite us to gaze through luminous layers or distorted reflections and be transported.
