Formal hall is one of many great experiences at Cambridge. It's a fancy dinner in college where everyone wears their gown and they usually happen a few times a week (attending is optional, of course). Unfortunately, it's usually quite difficult to get tickets to other college's formals apart from one week a year where tickets are open to all university members (for twice the normal price) to raise money for charity. I took advantage of this and went to three in a row.
