Call of Duty: WWII is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the fourteenth primary installment in the Call of Duty series and was released worldwide on November 3, 2017.
WWII is the first title since the original game and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One not to feature health regeneration in the campaign. Instead, players must find health packs scattered throughout each level, or rely on their medic squadmate to provide health packs. Other members of the player's squad can provide ammunition, grenades, call in mortar strikes, or spot enemies and reveal their position in form of silhouettes.[5] In certain sections of the game, enemy soldiers in the campaign can be captured, and wounded allies can be dragged to cover. In some parts of the campaign, players will be able to control vehicles.
The story opens with a montage of the Nazi conquest of Western Europe. After the attack at Pearl Harbor, Texas native Ronald “Red” Daniels (Brett Zimmerman) joins the United States 1st Infantry Division.
On June 6, 1944, just hours before the D-Day invasion, Daniels writes to his brother Paul. Serving alongside him is Jewish-American Robert Zussman (Jonathan Tucker), photographer Drew Stiles (Kevin Coubal), and Queens native and veteran Frank Aiello (Jeff Schine). Leading the platoon is Sgt. William Pierson (Josh Duhamel), and Lt. Joseph Turner (Jeffrey Pierce). After hearing a speech by Colonel Davis (Matt Riedy), the commander of the unit, the platoon storms Omaha Beach, and they come under heavy machine gun fire. After crawling through barbed wire and sand, the platoon make it towards the bunkers where the machine guns are stationed. While clearing out the last bunker, Zussman is stabbed in the abdomen by a German soldier with a bayonet. With Zussman unable to walk, Daniels carries him through the battlefield to a field hospital.
