Call of Duty 2014 Has Been Revealed
Recently at an event where PlayStation invites game companies to bring their new creations for the following year, Sledgehammer and Activision brought a teaser trailer to the event. This trailer was shown only by the heads of PlayStation, and although the trailer was obviously not leaked online, the information was.
The trailer takes place on the Golden Gate Bridge, and is described as "present day." It was commented on as being something that will fall in the Modern Warfare series, now before you cheer or boo, (depending on your feelings) it likely ISN'T Modern Warfare 4. It's one of two things, it's either a prequel to the Modern Warfare series, OR, like what I think, it's a RPG version of CoD.
Back in 2010, Sledgehammer had started to work on ideas and sketches for a Role Player version of Call of Duty, their game was put on hold because of the complete fallout of Infinity Ward. After Zampella and West left IW, they took about 80% of the employees with them to create Respawn Entertainment, and bring their vision of Titanfall to life. This left IW with only one of the former group's best designers, Robert Bowling, and IW couldn't and wouldn't have been able to bring MW3 to life without help.
As you know, Activision blamed Bowling for the problems that MW3 had for the first few months, they basically through him to the wolves, and Bowling got sick of making a game for money, not quality, so he too left IW and started working on his own company that will be bringing out their own game in 2015, Human Element.
In early 2013 Sledgehammer games went back to creating their own CoD game, this is what we will be seeing this November, likely the 11th.
What does this mean for Infinity Ward? What will their next game be? Ghosts 2? Well Activision is scared of Titanfall taking most of their fans, and know that the past two CoD games have pissed off a lot of fans, and have had more problems than can be forgiven, which leads me to IW's next game.
Back in 2013 they had a meeting between themselves and Activision, the idea game out to bring back Modern Warfare 1, to basically re-create the game. Although little is known about the meeting itself, what I have been told is that the campaign for the game (if it is a reboot) will feature a re-create of Modern Warfare 1, 2 $ 3, where the Multiplayer will take 30 of the most popular maps from the previous Modern Warfare games and put them together, and feature between 70-80 weapons from the series as well.
In the summer of 2013 and employee from IW stated that Ghosts was just thrown together and will be put to market, quoted from his Twitter account was the following. "Ghosts will have a worse multiplayer experience than Black Ops II" Ghosts was just put together to make money, that's it, giving at least 24 months to work on their next title set to come out in 2016, although it's believed it's been being worked on for about 30 months.
If the next IW game is a re-creation of the past three Modern Warfare it will definitely grasp fans attention, it seems like a desperate attempt to keep CoD relevant, a few years ago no one could believe that CoD could ever sink into the abyss, however they have been pushing themselves there since Activision sued West & Zampella, Activision lucked out with the help of Bowling and Sledgehammer fixing MW3, but that was their last great quality game.
