Born of lawmakers, disaster responders, and a passionate, caring public, the California Veterinary Emergency Team (CVET) at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine helps rescue animals in disasters wherever they strike.
CVET concluded its response to the #ParkFire on August 7, 2024. Over the course of two weeks, more than 50 veterinary professionals helped with CVET’s response. These vets, vet techs, vet assistants, and students logged nearly 2,000 volunteer hours helping animals (and their humans) in crisis. Truly inspiring work by an amazing team.

Riding horses is one of the most thrilling activities many of us have done. Horses hold a special place for veterinarians—for most of history they were the cornerstone of our profession. Although horses are still used for working purposes, they are now mainly used for recreation.
The school has been a longtime leader in equine health, including helping keep sport horses safe and well cared for. Lately, we’ve been proud to see how innovations from the school have helped racehorse safety in California dramatically improve, positively influencing practices nationally. In this episode, we’ll take a lap around the school and learn about the research and medical practices that are making an impact.
I’m excited for this coming Friday the 18th. We’re welcoming our newest DVM students, inducting them into the profession with our White Coat ceremony. Anyone can join us via livestream to cheer them on!
