The California Legislature has passed a “Budget Bill Junior” specifying how $1 billion already allocated in the state budget finalized in June will be spent. The bill now heads to the governor’s desk after facing opposition.
A controversial provision would provide $20 million to expand California Highway Patrol services for current and former legislators, judges and constitutional officers, as well as their immediate family members. The provision would include Gov. Gavin Newsom. The funding would come from the state’s Motor Vehicle Account, which is financed through driver registration fees.
