Have you seen this drum before? This is called a Calabash .. essentially a giant gourd grown for about a year, cut and quartered and left to dry in the sun for a summer or two.
It's most often seen in music of Mali and Niger⊠along the western boarder of the Sahara desert. Often the drum is played directly on sand, as to allow it to resonate fully.. I donât have much sand here in London so youâll see ive placed the drum onto a pillow which works too.
